Marble Cake

Probably the most popular sponge cake, this tasty treat is traditional yet bang on trend. Of course, we’re talking about marble cake.

You simply can’t go wrong with this cake. Kids and grownups love marble cake, and it’s ideal for any occasion. Since you can eat it with your hands, without using a plate or fork, it’s a tasty highlight of any picnic. With our marble cake, you can whip up a wonderfully light and moist cake with a striking marble effect blending light plain sponge and dark chocolate sponge in just a few easy steps.

What else you’ll need

  • 150 g soft margarine or butter
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 60 ml (approx. 6 tbsp) milk (1.5 % fat) and 10 ml (approx. 1 tbsp) milk (1.5 % fat) for the dark dough
  • a little wheat flour for the baking tin

Preparation

Make the dough

  1. Preheat a conventional oven to around 180 °C (fan approx. 160 °C).
  2. Put the baking mix, soft margarine or butter, eggs and milk into a mixing bowl and mix with an electric hand mixer (whisk) briefly on the lowest setting first of all, then on the highest setting for around 3 minutes, until creamy.

Bake

  1. Then grease a loaf tin (approx. 25 cm) and dust with flour, before adding 2/3 of the dough.
  2. Mix the cocoa mix included with the pack and 2 tablespoons milk with the rest of the dough and spread the dark dough created over the light dough.
  3. Use a fork to make spiral shapes through both layers of dough, producing a marbled structure. Bake the cake on the middle shelf of the preheated oven for around 60 minutes.
  4. After around 15 minutes’ baking time, make a cut around 1 cm deep lengthwise in the middle of the cake.
  5. Use a wooden skewer to check that the cake is ready before taking it out of the oven. After baking, remove the cake from the tray and place on a wire rack to cool.
