‘Maus’ Muffins

‘Die Sendung mit der Maus’ is one of the best-known kids’ TV programmes in Germany. The little mouse and his friends have enchanted viewers young and old since it began in 1971.

Now you can bake with him, too. These light, moist muffins packed with chocolate chips and topped with a cocoa glaze are really yummy. Making them is child’s play. The muffin cases included are decorated with fun mouse motifs and are a surefire hit for any child’s birthday. The muffins only take a little while to bake – but kids can while away the time with the games printed on the inside of the pack. This makes baking lots of fun – for little ones and grownups too.

What else you’ll need

For the dough:

  • 2 medium eggs
  • 125 ml cooking oil
  • 75 ml water

Preparation

Make the dough

  1. Preheat a conventional oven to around 200 °C (fan approx. 180 °C).
  2. Put the baking mix, eggs, cooking oil and water into a mixing bowl and mix with an electric hand mixer (whisk) briefly on the lowest setting first of all, then on the highest setting for around 1 minute, until creamy. Set aside 1 tbsp of chocolate drops. Mix the rest into the dough.

Bake

  1. Now put the muffin cases on a baking tray.
  2. Distribute the dough between the case equally using 2 tablespoons and decorate with the remaining chocolate chips.
  3. Bake the muffins on the middle shelf in the preheated oven. Use a wooden skewer to check that the muffins are ready before removing them from the oven.

Cool and decorate

  1. After baking, place the muffins on a wire rack to cool.
  2. Once the muffins have cooled, put the sachet of glaze in hot water for around 5-10 minutes.
  3. Remove the sachet from the water bath, dry and cut off a small corner of the sachet.
  4. Now decorate the muffins as desired with the liquid glaze.
