Citric acid

Citric acid: the ultimate all-rounder

Citric acid is one of the most natural household ingredients. It’s usually used as a flavour enhancer in food and can also be found in many cleaning products.

Our citric acid straight from the sachet is a handy all-rounder for the home:

  • Citric acid can be used for preserving and setting food.
  • Citric acid can be used to enhance the flavour of fruit salads, compotes and salad dressings.
  • Citric acid can also be used as substitute for lemon juice when preserving fruit and vegetables.
  • It can also be used around the house as it is, for instance, to remove limescale or soften water.

What is citric acid?

Citric acid is carboxylic acid that occurs as a white powder in its pure form. Citric acid also occurs as an organic substance in many fruits and is produced in our bodies, too.

Preparation

  • For better gelling of jams and jellies made from low-acid or sweet fruits.
  • When preserving fruits and vegetables, lemon juice can be replaced by citric acid.
  • For refining the taste of fruit salads, compotes and salad dressings.
  • Also a good helper in the household, e.g. for descaling or as a water softener.
